Does anyone have a CB in a TD5 Disco?
Where did you fit it?

I want to fit a Midland Allan in mine, and for the life of me I don't see anywhere neat I can fit the thing.

Ideas welcome, and pictures.

Have you thought about a handheld?

I use a Maycom hand held in my TD5, it's impressive with a magmount and an extension mic and I just clip it to the ashtray or drop it inside the armrest cubby. Takes only a minute to rig it .Maycom AH-27 CB Handheld Tranceiver
the adaptors to attach the ariel you can get from maplins. It also only takes a min to de-rig it, fit the rubber ariel and take it if you need to walk with it.

However going for a roof mounted in my 300 as i'm gonna seal the sunroofs.

I have the Midland Allan, it's a 80 channel set and does all the Euro channels too including AM stuff. I was wondering if anyone had fitted such a set in a TD5 Disco, and where.

My friend fitted one in frunt of the ratio lever, right where the sign/diagram is for the diff. Hard to explain, on the unrighted section. He says the trim is strong and easily can take a small CB like his

Wow .... great location. Is there depth behind there?
Please ask your chum to let me know!

Great news!
If there is the depth behind that surface that is where it is going.
Thanks.

I'm sure James fitted one there...jogged my memory... i've seen some Pics on here a while back, maybe PM him..!

yer probably gonna need an extension speaker also if you mount it there, unless you get cunning and wire it into the drivers stereo speaker with a little DPDT switch or something??

No problems there as all CBs have a "ext sp" socket on the back for this very reason, and neat little external speakers are cheap.

CBs also usually have a PA socket, so you can have an external speaker for shouting through the mike at people, like quite loud.

We parked a car in the middle of Glasgow. Put the PA speaker plug into the EXT SP socket. We parked 50 yards away.

When we transmitted, the other car "spoke" to people, but there was no-one in it! One of the things we did was to make it sound like the voice was trapped under the car! We begged people to push the car forward a bit (the brake was on hard) and they tried. It was very funny at the time but now I am old and sensible I realise it was very juvenile and immature.

HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!

Must try that again!

I'm wanting to get a new CB but looking on thunderpole etc.. threre dont seems to be ones with the PA port... at least not detailed in the spec that i can see. I got an old CB's with the PA port, but it's broken. I also got the horn itself but I want a new rig for my new truck.

I worry that the Yaesu amateur set may be shallower (less deep longways)

Correct... What you're seeing there is just the 'head' part of the set... Bit like a removable faceplace with a remote mounting kit. It doesn't enter the area behind the fascia, sorry. Out of interest, I do have a separate speaker mounted under the driver's seat, because the main unit is installed in the space under the steering wheel, next to the fuses, etc.

Have just installed a CB too... With grille-mounted expedition style 6ft antenna! It's wired so it just sits in the glovebox, and is just lifted out when required (during off-roading etc.) and sits on one of those little non-slip mats on top of the dashboard. Must take a photo to show you!! At other times, the radio is out of site and the mount for the antenna is simply unbolted.

Happy New Year, all :)

James

Here you go - 6ft antena for CB on front, and 5/8 tri-band amateur antenna on roof (removed for off-roading and replaced with flexible 1/4 wave on tracks with overhanging branches!)
