Hi just got a mini springer aerial to use on the cb on the 90.
Thinking about mounting it on the n/s wing (we have got low phone wires here :D )
Even a small aerial on the roofrack or rear ladder would be too high.

So i thought i'd ask - will it be ok on the wing just in front of the heater intake? Is there any reason why i shouldn't mount it there?

Im interested in the answer to this, I was thinking of it too.
For me, a rear mount would intrude into the rear cabin, and not hide behind the CSW interior panels, roof is a bit high (although ideal) wing sounds a good place, reasonable ground plane
I was actually thinking of the drivers wing, as theres a hole there where the radio aerial should go
 
Yep the drivers wing is where my radio aerial is - but thought quite forward on the n/s wing keeps it clear of the body and should give it a good ground plane for swr too.

I tried this and could not get it to SWR at all. Had a rubbish signal. I have chequer plate on my wings though so maybe that was the problem.
 
AH i've got chequer plate wing tops and bonnet too.............
Might have to run an earth wire from the mount to the chassis.

once had mine on wind with no probs but the best place to put it if you got hight restricsions is on the front bumper and you get a good earth
 
hmm, not thought of that, I have black chequer, the powder coating will isolate the plate form the wing, it would need earthing to work well as a ground plane?
 
I do also have a gutter mount, that could be butchered to go on the bumper, it would just clamp on then, also wouldnt cause much damage if it got ripped off whisle out laning (just take the paint off)
bumper would also get round the issue of the ally corroding and causing a bad connection would it not?
 
Get a body mount and mount It a bit lower on the rear. A stinger will flex to get under any cables an that anyway so roof mounting should be viable
 
Try one of these

Put that in flea bay £3.95
You will also require 2 x pl259, one each end of coax,for close communication for laning , off roading should not matter where mounted, get swr right and should be ok.Normally springer is preset.
 
Hi have put the cb aerial in the hole for the radio aerial and the new radio aerial in front of it on the o/s wing - looks very good - i'll put a pic up when i get 2 mins - as i'm 1/2 way through doing the P gasket

I have a rear mount (top panel) and no problem sitting behind the CSW interior panel.

Thinking of mounting my radio aerial on the other side so I can get a half decent signal.
 
just finished putting mine on at the weekend, mounted to the my fornt bumper, pretty impressed, got chatting to a blocke in Sowerby Bridge Last night, so over 15 miles, today could get a chap from manchester, week signal, but communicable, , think that should do greenlaning
 
Mounted my VHF antenna where the radio antenna used to be on the wing, works great, lots of range.
