I had a goog look at the part at the weekend and Wammers was correct. The knuckle holding the U/J was full of stress fractures adn it was made of **** steel. Every thing looks ok but mechanic will have a good look when insurance is sorted out. He reckons it is fine to drive as a 2 wheel dirve and more fuel efficent. Any toughts?
 
It will drive but be a bit wild at the back end if you forget going round a damp corner. Remember you are putting extra work on the remaining shaft so unless you want the same happening at the back end I'd get it sorted as soon as poss. I was tempted to go for the 'quality aftermarket part' but fortunately mine's getting a LR genuine part fitted under warranty. OK it took a bit of to and fro but getting there now.

OH, and while we're slating Britpart I had a couple of front discs that wouldn't go on the hubs as the holes were out by over 1mm in places. Exchenged for Bearmach and they went straight on. A bit heavier grade too.

Yes fine to drive like that. Did you check the viscous coupling?
