It will probably pass the emissions test if presented on lpg, but should still fail as it's supposed to have one fitted.
 
Ive had this on mine. My boys an MOT tester and recently went on a refresher course and asked the question. If its presented on LPG it gets tested on LPG and therefore comes under something something (cant remember the wording) and will be fine - This is from the VOSA man running the course.

Anyhow, Ive had three tests since de-catting mine ( not with the boy) and all good.
 
So I should be ok then. They are rattling so thought I'd just take them out and put a straight bit of pipe in instead.

If the cat has been removed when one was fitted as standard it is a fail. Nothing to do with what it's running on. Doesn't matter if it's running on mint humbugs. You can only carry out a none cat test on vehicles made between 1992 and 2002 IF the vehicle is NOT listed in the full cat test data base. I cannot see that a P38 is not listed.

new rules just recently(Few months ago) said if it came from factory with a cat or dpf installed it better be there or a failure. Do a google and see. I could care less what you do, your car your money.

That certainly applies to vehicles made in or after 2002 when stricter limits were introduced. But it doesn't matter what the car is running on if the car was made between 1992 and 2002 it requires a full cat test,and cats to be fitted, there are exceptions but only a couple. I cannot see a P38 not being included in the cat test data sheets. The other exception is if you have retro fitted an engine made before 1992 but paperwork must be provided, word of mouth is not good enough.
 
As long as it visually has a cat and it passes the emissions test then it's a pass. If there is a straight bit of pipe, has been obviously modified or is just not there then it's a fail.
 
Can you not poke the internals out of the cat (not a sexual suggestion) and run on LPG for the test ?:D

Believe me it sounds awful. I bought mine like that and it's been running like it for years - I've just replaced the cats and it sounds so much better.

It just sounded like a knackered old wreck before. Now it just is one.

That is currently how diesel drivers with dpf removed are getting away with it... until such time as vosa decide to check ecu settings on MOT.
