looking to buy a LPG system soon. Who is competant and will for a few cuppa'sand some cash Fit a LPG system with me. Its on a v8 classic...

Could not aggree more LPG MUST be certificated here in the UK ...If you do get it done "as a Foreigner" BEFORE you use it on the road take it to a CERTIFIED LPG installer get him to Check it out & CERTIFY it as Correct

I'm sorry Claw but that is simply not true. There is no legal requirement for an LPG system to be Certified. (unless the law has changed whilst I wasn't looking).

Of course the system must use components that are Certified for use in the EU.

That having been said, an uncertified installation is a pain to insure and most LPGA installers I've encountered won't Certify someone elses work:doh:

Sorry I was abit "Vague" there ...Ragtag is correct the INSTALLATION does NOT have to be certified

What I ment was the Components have to be (to E67-R01)

There are certainly guidelines issued by the LPGA that it would prudent to follow, this will ensure you can get a cert. from an approved installer that your insurance company may require.

speak to tinley tech they sell diy kits, they should be able to clarify the rules for ya

My car is LPG and the insurer has not asked to see a cerificate.
If it is not a legal requirment how can they enforce it?

They dont. But if you found yourself in a position where the car was inspected after a prang, they would use the non conforming system as a get out. They are as slimey as you like and will use anything to prevent paying out on a claim.

Insurers don't enforce the requirement to have a Certificate, the create the requirement as part of their risk management. For them, clearly it is less risky to have an independant verification of a system's integrety than not. They cannot force you to have a certifiate but by the same token, if you haven't got one, they are free to decline your business if the choose.

Rest assured though, contrary to what Rewmer says, if you have declared LPG as a mod on your proposal and they have not asked for a Certificate, they would not be able to use this at a later date to default on a claim.

My LPG system is declared to the insurer and as I stated earlier they havn't asked for any certificate.
I find it very frustrating that a group of installers can band together and say WE are the law.
I don't doubt that a badly installed lpg system is dangerous but lets face it ANYTHING done badly is lethal.
It is not law that you you have to use the lpga.
