Yeah. i dnt wanna be nicked really.

It realise its gotta be a small trailer, i only want it to tow things like my MG midget when i get it, a 205 for track days etc, that kinda stuff.

My dad is also a copper, i have heard about many accidents hes been to involving ****e trailers, as i gotta get the midget at least from 300 miles away, i want it to be a proper job at least.

besides, i might get stopped. The coppers seem to love my landy...

it changed again recently. You can now tow anything on a B only licence, as long as the entire Gross Train Weight dnt exceed 3500KG. So, with my 90 i can tow a trailer up to MAM 1100KG, give or take 20 KG.

With a 110 i could only tow a trailer up to about 500KG. Great huh...

I've got a 205 nearly done for track days, lets know when yer ready and I'll come and blow yer away:D

If yer want yer midget pickin up I'll do it for diesel plus dependin on where it is or yer can borrow me trailer.

And yes your 205 will blow ours away, ours is set up for road rallies currently, and its a 1.4 carby, (twin carb though)

Fast enough to start playing on rallies, and its also road legal and insurable for us! Just menion those nice letters G T and i to the insurers and they say... How old? 19? Ha... HA!... ha ha hahahaha... :D

Ere boydy how heavy is an MG. I was selling a little transporter trailer I used to have and the bloke who came to see it had a tidy one he wanted it for. He reckoned it weighed pretty much exactly a ton which doesn't leave much leeway for the weight of the trailer itself???

Trailer as in avitar and the AA van weighed 2.3 tons as it was full of tools etc. Towed it from just north of Glasgow, 230 miles with the V8..:eek: loved every mile:) :)

Your 205 is probably running, mines not, so you win at the moment:D

I'll work out a price for bringing the midget from Surrey, 500 miles at 27mpg de dum de dum de dum... I'll get me calculator.
 
The midget weighs in at about 700KGs. I think the 1500 ones were a smidge heavier.

The towing weight information came from Vehicles you can drive and how old you must be to drive them : Directgov - Motoring

[On a cat B licence you can drive] Motor vehicles with a MAM not exceeding 3500kg having not more than eight passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. Combinations of towing vehicles in category B and a trailer, where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle

Confusing though it seems, me an my dad (20 odd years traffic copper) read it as above.

Hey Rob, I'd always read that as not being allowed to tow any more than 750kg on a B license. Does that mean you can tow any combination of vehicle and trailer as long as the maximum authorised mass doesn't exceed 3500kg?

Confusing stuff, vehicle weights. I take it this includes the weight of the towing vehicle. So if your 90 is say, 1500 kg with a 3500kg towing weight, you've got 2000 kg to play with on the trailer?

Sounds odd to me. I'm sure I've read it wrong
 
Thats how i read it, an my dad agreed with me. It is all very confusing, im sure the wording changes with every time i check it :)
 
I had a chat with a traffic copper in the local area it is the MAM of the landrover plus the rated MAM of the trailer.

For example:

If you have a 90 your allowed to tow 1100Kgs As its MAM is 2400Kgs as from the factory. The trailer and its load MAM must be less than or equal to 1100Kgs. Your trailer can only be stamped for 1100MAM. If it is stamped or rated higher you Cannot tow with it even though you have not loaded it to its capicity. Jai
 
Jai is right it is the combined MAM of the towing vehicle and the trailer. So 90's MAM is 2400kg which leaves a MAM of 1100kg for the trailer. ths combination would of course have to be braked because it weighs more than 750kg.

easily solved by having it derated. a sticker bought from a trailer shop and placed over original rating wud be sufficiant.

But then if you ever do want to load it to full capacity you won't be able to.

Seems a buggering funny way of doing this whole trailer lark. Seems they set out to confuse as many people as possible and succeeded. I was under the impression my 110 had a MAM of 3500kg? If this is correct (which it probably isn't) why is the 90 over 1000kg less? Can't just be the wheelbase/weight?
