I am having a bit of engine issues with my '95 Disco 300 TDI auto. When I accelerate a bit hard or uphill, it is like the whole car shakes. As soon as I take my foot of the accelerator, or only accelerate "gently", the shaking stops. At cruising speed there is no shaking.
Believe it could be an engine mount - but any other ideas what could be the trouble?
Thx in advance for any suggestions :)

First easy check could be seized brakes, Jack each wheel up and make sure they turn freely. Would have thought you would have symptoms more often though.

Thx for the comments. I am going to Morocco in 3 months / about 2,000 miles. As the shaking only started about 500 miles ago, should it be ok to last for another 2,000 miles? The price to get it fixed in Morocco is much cheaper (a mechanic charge about £3 per hour - parts about the same) - PS. I live in Toulouse, so not so far a drive as from the UK :)

Just to clarify, the car does NOT shake when revving it in neutral - only when accelerating and it is hard accelerating or uphill...

being a 300tdi could it be the rear prop doughnut? I only ask as I have heard it can cause vibration and because I haven't had a 300 only my 200 I don't know the exact symptoms of that part failing

I think i'd put my money on a propshaft as they soon start to vibrate as you take power.

I've got a dodgy UJ on my TD5 110 front prop and taking power sure makes the whole thing wobble.

She does have 196k miles but I have looked after the engine very well :) Will drive her as little as possible before my next trip to North Africa :)

The universal joints vibrate while exellerating when they start to go when up to speed they dont vibrate much untill there really fooked it will be the front prop uj the one nearest the transfer box mine like destroying themselves buy good quality ones cheap ones will go in a couple of weeks

The rear prop donut will squeak and vibrate when it falls to bits :D

just to add crawl under the car when on axle stands and turn the props give em a good tug in all directions the joint thats gone will be clear

u joint would be my first guess, followed by panhard rod bushes. I had a REALLY bad shake on mine, it was made worse weirdly by the fact that the throttle cable adjuster had slipped (meaning i had about 2/3 of the throttle on that I should have), i fixed that, shaking was minimal for a couple of weeks, then the rear U joint promptly disintegrated.
