hang on whos car is it then?

dcooper says "I must first state here that my French is poor and “car mechanic French” even worse" hence me suggesting he get a fluent speaker invovled, or better still a friendly frog

ffs try and follow!

It is his car and I live in France and am trying to help him:)

get a friendly french bloke to do yer talking, you might be making the situation worse as however good your french is they will have spoted the fact that your not native

Rubbish! It's what you say & how you say it!

well i sure hope you are helping as (quoting you from here a little while ago ...

"The guys in the **** and needs help,I have'nt got a problem ****ing any garage off especialy one that after 2+weeks has to take a starter motor to an electrien to see if it's working or not.
"

now if i'd been ****ed off by someone asking ackward questions and trying to tell me how to do my job i might also have a rather indifferent attitude to the problem ..... softly softly catchy monkey and all that eh

Quick update.
No news from the garage. They didn't phone yesterday, nor today. I really thought they were going to do something on Friday. I'll give them til mid-day on Monday, when they said their "LandRover" man is back. So much for them telling me "it take half an hour to code the key/zapper".

AAARRRR

They are now telling me its the Fuel Injector pump and cost 150 eruo just to look at (ie check it out).

could the bloke with the landy that dint start post a break down of whats bin did and whats not. am sure that in amongst all this talk of baseball bats and peter pipers there is enough to get to the bottom of it... and as has bin posted on here fook nose how many times, dealers in britain are just as arrogant and unhelpful as they are in france and the same goes for all the other consumer outlets... service is same the world over, some places are excellent and some are crap.

any way if you'd like to pm me i could take a run up your way at the weekend, if you think i could help.

aye but thurs bits about staters and fuel pumps and stuff anorl.. am still trying to get me head around why wet keys would gub a starter or fuel pump.

shirley if it was working ok before hand then with a properly zapped key it should work now. therefore i would think its something dead simple like a ........fuse or loose connection that the garage haven't tightened back up.. all this talk of starters and fuel pumps sounds like they have fooked it somehow and int got a clue what to do to fix it.

so anyways i was trying to find out what they have done to it that might have bin near an important connection , it wont be the first time that a ecu has bin knocked enough to cause the plug to come part way out , only needing pushed back in to get it working again.
of course when the garage do find the loose connection they'll say it was the interphase ecu for the digital link between the low pressurefuel pump and the injector rail relay bypass that was at fault and that will be 25,000 of yer frog euros please

Hi.
A History lesson
Saturday 4th August
Went swimming with key/fob. Car towed away 5-6 o’clock evening. Had a 2+ hour wait for pickup. He’d sbeen unable to find us. He was at the top of the road, I was parked in carpark at bottom of the road, as I explained to breakdown telephone operator.

My visits to the Ford Garage St Brieuc.

Before I recount my dealings with the Ford garage, may I just say that not once have the garage phoned me. I have asked them on every meeting to phone me to keep me informed. I have always gone with at least one person who can speak good French or who are fluent. I have relied on friends and neighbours to transport me there (about 20-25 mins in car, each way).

I first went to the Ford garage Monday 6th August to order a new fob (I was told it would take two days to arrive). The car was initially towed to a Renault garage (where the breakdown lorry was based), and not where I wanted it to go. I asked if it could go to the nearest ford/landrover dealer or even my home address. He said it was too late!

After a number of phone calls to my insurance company and the Renault garage, I decided to make my way to the Renault garage in the off chance that the fob had dried out and I could get the car started. No chance. So I paid the Renault garage to move the car the Ford Garage at St Brieuc. It arrived a day after they said.
Phoned the garage on Thursday, they understood all they had to do was reprogramme the new fob.

Went to pickup the car up on the Friday 10th August (as I previously been told that it would take only half an hour to reprogramme the fob). Work hadn’t started. They said they were very busy and it was late, it was now about 5 o’clock. I signed a devi, which said the car would be ready 4 o’clock Tuesday.

I arrived Tuesday 4 o’clock. There had been a problem. It would now be Thursday. Of course they hadn’t thought to phone me. Thursday comes, (you’ve guessed it no phone call )- so I thought I’d better phone them this time. Sure enough had I turned up it would have been another wasted journey. They’d regrogrammed the new fob but now the engine won’t turn over. They asked me when was the last time I drove the car!

In I go on Friday, 17 August, and sign another devi. This no date date is given for when the car will be ready. I ask them AGAIN for them to phone me if there are any problems.

Monday/Tuesday, I can’t remember they tell me they’ve checked the solenoid and now suspect the Starter motor.

Another update. The Garage have just told me "Its not the Starter Motor" But they don't know that it is.

24th August went in with bypass unit (AMR4956). left it with them to fit

Monday 27th August , they’ve refitted all the bits taken off the car, but engine is still not turning over. They suspect the Fuel Injector pump and cost 150 euro for starters to take if off. We’ve had enough of their incompetence.

Tuesday 28th have tracked down TWO English landrover mechanics. Both seem understand the problem and think they have the solution and all over the phone. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Go to garage to tell them enough is enough.

I’ll end here and perhaps post tomorrow with a breakdown of their 600+ euro bill to reprogramme a key fob and wreak our car.

Some of their excuses:
We’ve been busy
Our Landrover mechanic has been on hoilday (So who the hell has been working on the car?)
In fact I’ve just found out that “their landrover mechanic” is shared between two garages.
And I think he said “They are no longer a Landrover agent”. Well what all the landrover signs etc doing and why are people working/walking around in Landrover overalls? However I do see that the Landrover showroom over the road has closed and that they are now selling Suzuki car.

Here's the bill. It was on headed paper with ford and landrover logos (and in English the ford moto "Feel the difference") - I'm feeling it in my wallet!
I've tried to reproduce the layout of the bill as best I can.

---------------------------------------------------------Heures-----Prix
Diag T4 -------------------------------------------------0.40-----22.00 €
Reprogrammation telecommand ---------------------------0.30-----16.50 €
Controle circuit alimantatie -------------------------------1.00-----55.00 €
Depose pose demarreur reparer chez elec auto ------------1.30-----71.50 €

Demontage console centrale essai faisceau client ----------1.00-----55.00 €

----------------------------------------------------------2.00
**Pompe injection a reparer.**

-----------------------------------------------total m.o.- 6.00---220.00 €

Telecommande Freelan LR KT------------------------------------- 51.27 €
-----------------------------------------------------Total pieces 51.27 €

Remise en etat demarreur ---------------------------------------- 235.78 €

-----------------------------------------------Total HT facture---507.05 €
-------------------------------------------------T.V.A. (19.6%)---99.38 €
---------------------------------------------------TOTAL T.T.C.--606.43 €

I paid - my thinking was, that its the only way to get the car moved. Two people have subsequently said we should try and stop thecheque rather than go through the "dispute" telephone number given on the back of the bill, as this takes time and is not very "successful".
I should also hear from the "English" mechanic today, I then intend to query the bill, as soon find out what the problem/solution was.
I'm also not sure what the
"Remise en etat demarreur ------- 235.78 €"
is for. As no more detail was given. Any ideas out there?
