Hi,

Silly question but if you have a capstan winch that's driven from the G'box can you also have a overdrive or do they both need to connect at the same place on the G'box

What's the aprox cost of a capstan winch for a ser 3 these days?

thanks Andy

afaik if its a front capstan you are talking about it connects to where the starting handle goes on the engine and the overdrive would go on the back of the gearbox.

if its a rear capstan you want, it might be different.

winch prices vary greatly depending on condition and whether all the bits are there e.g. the drive dog.

I sold mine a few months ago for £750 but it was in excellent condition

Fairy did a front mounted drum winch that was driven from the box...as stated...and as far as I know...capstans drive from the front of the crank.

mine was just like that but in much cleaner condition, be interesting to see what that finishes at.

the locking pin and chain for the handle seems to be missing and some of the bolts maybe

Only one pto device at a time! O/d or pto winch not both.

was there not an engineer in one of the mags a year or two back who had made an isolator so he could run the winch but retain an overdrive?

I may be wrong (SOMETIMES AM) but i'm sure I saw or heard something on it?

if not then I copyright the idea, so bug off LOL:confused::rolleyes::D

that ebay one I linked to went for £337.
Think I paid £160 for mine and had to manufacture the drive shaft inner end and make new disengage slider block that goes around that portion of shaft.
But I use it quite regularly and it works really well.
