Hear what you say about the hardtop. If I was being selfish it'd keep wifey n kids out the landy! But honestly I park it outside and our weather in winter can be extreme I'm going to reluctantly put the hardtop on. The original canvas is the bullocks so I want to preserve it.

Well that's it done, almost. Dismantled the tilt no problem and then the rain came on. Got the hardtop almost fitted. With the new rubber seals it's sitting higher. The main problem is with the new set screws for the corners. I've ordered as per parts manual but they are too long for the rear corners, a bit baffling. Will check it out tomorrow. The amount of compression for the new seal is defined by the distance between the rear door hinges. I'll be fettling away tomorrow. At least it's protected from the rain. Not too bad a job with two people to lift the hardtop into place. Once done it's onto the springs.

Which part is too long? Is it the part that secures into the capping, or the part which the side bolts to sticking up from the capping.
Although I have not had this problem so cannot help with which parts to order I did notice when I replaced my capping that there are two different tube lengths for the hoodstik/corner bolts. The rusty capping set I removed had a short tube and the set I refitted had a tube about three times the depth. This would obviously make a huge difference tot he parts required to secure the roof sides.
 
Parts manual says set screw 338741 for SWB, which is what I've got but exactly as you describe they're too long. Am I missing a part?

On a bit of digging it appears that the defender capping had a shorter tube seen in photos here (long, short) although either will fit either model. It might be worth trying the shorter bolts, ayr500110.
 
My LWB hard top was poorly bolted on so I ordered new bolts and brackets from the parts book. Most were wrong, its not as clear as it looks. With a lot of searching I found all the right parts in the book, but not where you expect them in the diagram. Even the long flanged bolts with the rubber bushes had the wrong thread length.

Thanks for that. What an afternoon fettling to no avail. I got the inner (door) fasteners in but it's all a sequence. So I reached impasse. I then tried checking online parts for S2a but no joy, even phoned Craddocks who were helpful but unable to resolve the problem. I'll go the other direction and try your suggestion . I looked at some stupid YTube videos, no use either apart from confirmation that my rear tub corner tubes are very short (about half the size). Anyone know of a short slot/ mounting screw?
Solved the problem by inserting a 50cm tube to take up the length. It's worked a treat but still mystified by why the tub capping has such a short slot.

X1 Not the first time I've found the parts manual misleading. Usually when it's obscure part.
 
Forgot to say I made the tube extensions from a garden rake handle, not sure how much compression they'll take but if I sucure the front and sides WTF.
 
Job done. Nice neat fit hopefully watertight with the new seals. Finished at 2.00 and it's now windy, drizzling and cold. Glad it's done. Onto the front springs this weekend. Prepping tools and parts. In the meantime got repair the lawnmower :cool:.
