Hi all, on a recent visit to NZ i met i guy who had fitted a Mitsibushi Canter motor in a 90, i just wondered if anyone had done this fit and how straight forward it is, or isnt?
thanks.
Mike
I don't see why it would be a problem.
After all people have been fitting all sorts of engines in to land rovers over the years.
Take the example of the mazda 3.5slt engine which was a very popular fitment in to land rovers a few years back.
That engine was originally fitted in to a commercial vehicle of the same type as the Canter.
I would suggest fitting the canter gearbox as well , as the r380 wont last . The difficulty factor will depend on age of engine and whether its ecu controlled or mech .

Just born cautious, I reckon. I know they put the BMW M52 engine in Defenders in South Africa for a while and I think they produced upwards of 190hp, but weren't that torquey I don't think. I know the newer Canter engines are a lot more powerful than the older ones, but no idea of the torque they produce. Haven't googled it, I was just presuming a canny bit. Just me being over cautious likely.
