I can get my landy started but i cant turn it off :s its a 2.25 diesel, i turn the key and pull it out but its still running, i pull the lever out, that has a picture of what looks like an engine with a line through it, that slows the engine but doesnt cut it out so ive just been stalling it to stop it :s

any help would be greatly appreciated

Mine does the same thing
Check for feed at the fuel cut off solenoid when ignition off but engine running
Think mine is getting a feed from the alternator exciter wire keeping it switched on hence why the engine still runs

I could well be wrong, but I assumed the stop solenoid was cable operated - hence the lever. To me if its slowing but not stopping that would indicate the cable needs adjusting, or it's stretched. Worth checking :)

What year is the car to have a hand cut off ?
You sure it's not a hand throttle ?

As I said I'm probably wrong

Just wondered why they would need a lever if it wasn't cable operated lol, and put two and two together and probably made 5.

the bar to the left of the steering wheel should be pulled out to cut then engine off on a series engine, only if you have a newer engine fitted will it have an electronic cut out, if the cable is out of adjustment then it will not cut out. on the side of the injector pump there is a lever and cable that pulls it back, this is the cut out, if you would like a photo post back and i will upload one.

This is from a small amount of knowledge having just replaced my engine stop cable (marked in red on attached picture).
Open the bonnet and lift the lever at the bottom of the injector pump by hand, if the engine stops you know it is just an adjustment of the stop cable that is required.
