Hello, new to the site was wondering if anyone out there knows why I can't get the rear airbags off my 1996 RR P38.

Not hard to work out why they are deflated as one has a big hole in it so looked on the 'net' on what eas is all about and how to change an airbag, looked simple and was up untill the point of pulling the bags away from the top, air pipe off, R clips off top and bottom, bottom off but top is solid on both sides.

Corosion, stupidity??

i had that problem,i ended up getting a long chisel and just belted them out, once out there is T sort of shape that the springs fit into, get a file and clean around the edges, then put a bit of grease around it before fitting the new spring in;)

tried that on mine and it still wouldn,t work,so i put a long chisel in through the wheel arch and smashed the top bit off and it just fell out

Well I'm not alone!!-see my post "Air Springs Ha Ha!!".
You are lucky, I'm still struggling to get the clip off the first rear.
The motor is built like a tank so a few shocks with a lump hammer and big chisel won't break it-just make sure you are clear of any brake pipes, cables and air pipes though as things are pretty tight for room in that area.:behindsofa:

Irish rover - dont bother trying to get the clip out just get a long chisel and snap it off - then fit a new one ...

Irishrover, had the same problems with clips, a small punch did them eventually, real pain. Have finally got airbags off, long chisell or pry bar as said above and lots of viens popping out of head.

If the next bit of the job goes well I would be very suprised.

Done the one side piece of cake putting them back in.
Bleed the brakes now as I have replaced the pipes from the back to the front then will attack the passenger side. Have to wait and see if I need the air saw!!!

Off to collect my parts and put it all together. After that it will be computer time with a OBD II cable, "there may be trouble ahead"

Great tip from Eightinavee..if you have a compressor-slightly inflate the bags until they seat and the clips are a doddle to put in. I smeared the clips with copper grease hoping it may stop them rusting as quickly.
Put mine on the RCL today and the heights were all over the place, as much as 30mm difference at all levels, set the "Bad" corners up and the others were out-still, keeps you fit walking round the car with a tape rule!!
