My 2a, just a thought but anyone know how to fit a cummins 6bt into swb 69?

Really like them. And what do you need?

I'm stuck between my new 19j or a cummins BT very nice to drive just driven mates 90 and what a sound, like I say it's just a thought FOR NOW. :D

I would imagine you'd have to lose the front end of the series for a defender one, never seen a converted series before, doesnt mean it cant be done though

3litre Rover sixes have been put into swb's, i've seen at least two put into 88" models and my dad put one into a 1952 Series1 swb

so unless the 6bt is significantly larger than the old Rover unit it'll fit, how the ancient chassis/suspension will handle that power (not to mention the gearbox) is another question

Ei because didn't lro a few years back feature a six pot swb too? Series box are generally quite strong well the s2 2a lwb boxes anyway.

to the best of my knowledge the majority of swb and lwb boxes are interchangeable and of identical strengths (depending on the suffix)

the only differences that can make things awkward will be fourpot bellhousings and sixpot bellhousings (unless you have a Series 1 gearbox/bellhousing which can have it's own oddities)

the only "Series" gearbox that i think really stands out as different is the "1ton" gearbox

the one ton gearbox they were 6 pots too? I have not had much to do with these only one. but I was five, are these stronger?

i don't know about stronger but definitely harder to find and lower geared to allow for the 9.00 tyres, no facility as far as i know to take an overdrive of any kind

no over drive? wow fcck me running that must be a noisy drive and MPG

the top speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Pretty sure there a few series truck in YouTube with 4bts in and they have a series front would matter to much with mine if I was going 6bt as the front already fender

i'll guess you're going to need a stronger gearbox to go with that engine (6bt) then plus probably stronger halfshafts and diffs

then i suspect you'll be needing to move/remove crossmembers, along with modify the bulkhead and tunnel (possibly the seatbox as well) to accomodate all these modifications, not forgetting possibly reworking the steering system

it's looking like you've just chucked your budget out of the window ;)

I wouldn't bother putting a 6bt in mine anyway budget build ;)

Be the same as a normal one. Running the 9.00s brings the speeds for each gear the same as a standard gearbox with standard wheels

this was all I could turn up but you may be able to get an idea from where its sitting?

I think this has a 6BT fitted. The 6BT weighs over a 1,000lbs and with 400ftlb you would need to do some upgrading. Note the Jap axles fitted in the pic. The ZF box that is normally fitted with the 6BT is the one to use.
