hi folks, I currently have a southdown snorkel on my 300tdi going straight to turbo with no airbox, I want to fit a safari snorkel but do I need an airbox to do the job properly?

as im worried the pipe work may fowl on the 2nd battery

Thank you. So I assume a new opening has to be made in the side of the O/e airbox?
 
I see. So it actually pays to get a genuine safari snorkel.

I would stop using it till you have an airbox/filter fitted. Just think back to the last air filter you changed. Imagine all that crap from the filter inside your engine :screaming_bug_eye_f
