Hi everyone! I got a 300tdi 5 door disco 2 months ago and have a few questions i need answering and a bit of general advice as i keep getting conflicting answers from magazines/google searches!

To cut a long story short im after getting my family runabout ready to take on green lanes/pay and play days. I have a tight budget and im after a non winch bumper, sump guard etc (if you may have an old bits lying around ile be interested!) Where is best to get bits from...and whats the stuff thats worth getting rather than shiny ebay junk that will break or snap off?!
My other query i have is if i fit a 2 inch lift kit will it mean i need to swap radius arms and props etc as some searches i have done have said i need wide angle props and cranked radius arms and extended brake hoses....but some folk have commented they do not have them on theirs and have a 2 inch lift kit and all is well...but as its my daily driver/kid bus, the last thing i want is to make it unsafe or to cause wear on parts that mean i breakdown on the school run! I want some advice from guys/gals who know what they are doing! Hence why i am asking you lot!

For starters I would recommend going green laning as it is and see how you get on, I can never see the point of spending loads of money you say you haven't got on loads of crap you don't need and probably will never use. Most standard vehicles are very capable of tackling the majority of green lanes with a decent set of all terrain tyres and little else.

Ive got bf goodrich mud terrains on disco steel wheels that came with the bus when i bought it so thats a start!

Go and enjoy yourself and assess what you need when you've got stuck a few times. If you were talking serious off roading or pay and play days then that might be different. Many people wreck their on road capability of their vehicle by thinking they need to lift it changing its steering geometry and centre of gravity because they think they need to spend loads of money on ****e.
My defender is bog standard apart from jackable sills and I don't think I've ever got stuck in it.

Go and enjoy yourself, but don't go alone. Getting stuck when you're in a group can be a laugh, part of the experience, getting stuck when you're on your own is an entirely different kettle of fish.

There's a lot you can do with a fairly standard vehicle and driving technique. There are some examples on here of people doing successful Land Rover motoring on a budget - even full restorations in some cases. There's somebody called min200 whose threads are well worth reading, and a few years ago Johnny Curt 1 did something similar with a Series model https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/johnnys-series-3-resto-project.178801/ So it is possible.

As has already been said here, the standard Disco is a pretty formidable and capable off road vehicle without all that expensive "strap on" accessory stuff, a good set of M/T tyres go a long way to making the vehicle look the part and are useful but all that other stuff is basically unnecessary unless you are in it for the "image".
