HI all
Can i put a gallon of petrol in my 300tdi with a full tank of diesel to clean out the injection pump as i have been told by old friend

:DTWIZZLE:D

whats a gallon in real measurements?

I put a few litres of petrol in with my diesel say 3 times a year to give it a clean, works wonders for me.

There is very little if any diesel lying around in a injection pump ,Its either used or returned
Why do you want to clean it out, Is it not running right?

I did not know that

If you run veggie or bio you need to change fuel filter more often as well, if is very good for 'cleaning' carp out of the tank and lines ...

in the colder weather the oil thickens, (becomes more viscous), so you can thin it a bit with diesel or petrol, but some diesel fuel pumps don't react well to veggie or petrol so if you feck yer motor, tough titties ... :D

Plenty of info on the bio forums, maybe some on here if the search works ...

do you run veg oil? Is it worth doing to clezn the whole system out prior to an MOT?

When we bought our 300Tdi the previous MOTs noted smoke emissions high, a run through with some veggie and a drive round the country brought it right down ... past last MOT with no advisories as well :D

arr cool wonder if its worth doing on my mildy smoky NA, prob wont do any harm cheers

If you're going to dunk it straight in the tank (rather than rig up a pre-heat system) it's handy at this time of year to half fill a clear drinks bottle with it and leave it outside. If the temperature drops low enough to "turn" the mix you can check the bottle first before pumping it through your fuel system.

Okay cheers, need to read up on it more make sure the NA pump etc is ok with bio etc

thanks people
i was filtering used chinky oil but i lost where i picked it up from i haven't used it for 6 months now.it was running through a pre-heat system i made to fit the disco and i always changed the filter, all the pipe and the tank was cleaned out but now i seem to be having problems with the injection pump.i can drive up to 30ish and im having problems

post back if a gallon of petrol through your tank fixes your problem :car:

If you are going to be pedantic it also depends on the temp. of the liquid too :p:p

Ha, yes I was only having a bit of a poke - this is LZ after all!! ;)

But, seeing as you've bitten, I'll point out you're still incorrect:

One gallon equals 4.54609 litres regardless of temperature as it is just a conversion. It is just an equation, and one that has nothing to do with temp/t.

However just to add that specific gravity / density will change due to temperature so while the volume may remain constant the stored energy per litre / gallon will differ - but not by much and can't be bothered to work it out!.
