I dont mind buggering a vehicle up to find out....all mine are ****e anyway.Or are after I have driven them. Its the financial side I have a problem with..........

Well.

I think it could be possible with a bit of cut and bodge.

Tbh with enough bodge anything is possible. If you bodge it properly then you have simply modified it to fit.

I think the chassis main sections are a similar distance apart so it's probably worth a look.

And I think the OP might be referring to PREFACELIFT d2 headlamps? They are similar to 300 lamps but slightly better.

Either way, someone should take one for the team and try it :D

Yeah, understood and agreed....but what I was asking is....is it a straight fit ? Like, unbolt existing D1 bumpers....bolt D2 bumpers onto D1,no buggering about.....not so worried about the headlights but they would be a bonus. The little round fogs would be a nice touch, too. But since the bumpers on D1 are ****e,the end caps are stupid and always look wonky or straight fall off.........it'd be nice to just bolt off, bolt on,hey feckin presto, cushty road car.
Since I have several D1s I use them for different jobs and it would be nice to have the road car sans hanging off bits. Or is this an impossible dream?

Seriously though,I would really like to know.Anyone with a D1 and a D2 fancy spending a couple of hours to find out ? That or anyone got a D2 bumper to sell me so as I can try,if no one knows or has tried ?

I'd try it if I could find a cheap bumper, I'll have an answer from the landrover guys later this afternoon hopefully as I have to pick my disco up at about 5

Now THATS an interesting proposition,a D2 body on a D1.............

....looking forward to hearing what the shop guys have to say,Doc

With the chassis and body being almost identical its possible with a few slight modifications to brackets etc

Basically it can be done fairly easily :D

a disco 2 body is considerably longer at the back.

id prefer to body off a d2, and then take 300tdi engine, gearbox and electrics to it.

basically wire a 300tdi into a d2 body, with d2 chassis

there would have to be some extension at the rear, but basically it would all go together.

you would create a very very simple disco 2.

not sure how youd get on with the mot, maybe it wouldnt be a problem. im thinking emissions mainly.

cheers.

It's just I still have the "convertible" with bloody good 200tdi running gear and I have seen an MPI D2 "spares or repair" for about £750. Wondered if I could make a good 200TDi D2......

i had a quick measure about 6 months ago as i was wondering similar thing as my disco 1 body is shagged underneathe and kids have destroyed interior, most of the mount measuerd up even back has extension on d2 to make up for longer body chassis looked similar in length etc but not definate will get 2 together and let you know

You are correct - I misread it - it said disco 2.0 MPI

But the idea is still sound :D

I wonder what we will do in say 10 years when everything
is so bloody impossible to repair/ mod etc.

Just think, a TD5 with coil springs, no ecu's or fly by wire.
A key that just unlocks it and turns ignition on, a simple radio.
Just a good heater, whats climate control, I dont even want
aircon.

Maybe I'm a dinosaur!!

The wheelbase for the D1 and D2 is the same I looked into this but I ended up just upgrading my D1 with 2004 lights and other nice bits.
A D2 body will fit on a D1, I've done all the measurements.
To add, there are a few things that are the same/better.
I also have a TD5 rear door fitted to my D1 and some interior bits and bobs

Dont want a series, fine if you like them but not my cuppa.

The fact that this thread is still going means there must be similar

thoughts.

If we all thought them totally brill. we wouldn't keep trying to improve them.

Ps I do think them brill
