I have repaired a wing and etch primed the bare metal , I then sanded it down and painted the whole wing , it looks great , is there a reason why you can't just prime the whole series and leave it at that ? Wondering if it would absorb water ?

I think primers are porous....but why not just paint the whole thing mat grey rather than primer if you prefer that look?

Yeah , I'm probably just being lazy. It should be marine blue so I'll stick with that , I was just amazed at how forgiving the primer was and I am trying to keep it as original as possible

Primer is porous and relatively fragile as paints go - they're designed to build and be sanded then sealed with a top coat.

You really want something over top of it.

My Dad had a Sherpa pick van for about 8 years and that came in grey primer from the factory, and stayed like it ever since!
Go fer it :)

It'll probably not last long though with modern primers, which are pretty cack, so best to top coat really!

Grey etch primer - I had an ali trailer in that finish for forty years...... low maintenance!
