i havea 1990 tdi defender which has a thin series steeringwheel andwant to change it for the thicker one that I beleive later 200s have; can it be done

Step 1:- look here (linky) to determine which type you have (A B or C) with a 36 or 48 spline fitting.

Step2:- look on ebaY or on-line for a suitable boss and steering wheel.

Step 3:- part with money

Step 4:- fit new and sell old here or on ebaY

Just one word of caution, I changed the steering wheel on my 89 TD to the later 300 tdi pattern. I had to change the steering colum as well. The old colum had a smaller diameter shaft. Follow mik's advice and you won't go wrong.
