I have no warning light on my Ex 2.5 petrol now 300, 90. However the fuel tank sender has a third spade terminal for the warning light, can't imagine it would be too much of a drama to wire it up......have a look at your sender to see if its there........
My guess is it earths at the set point to teigger the light and the bulb is live, so it might be as easy as running a wire from the tank alongside the sender wiring and onwards to the warning light connection, I could be talking rubbish though having not looked at a diagram......so,eone on here will know...
