Hi guys,
What (if any) checking height is used for timing the RV8 camshaft?
I wanna know what's in there now as I like how it drives but I think I'm in for a new camshaft/lifters.
My 3.5 carb has a knocking sound on cold start up which goes away after a few minutes. A compression test revealed 2 cilinders with 0 pressure, the rest was 150ish psi.

It has the Land rover round cam lobe syndrome by the sound of it. At the moment you have a V6. :D:D
 
After a minute or so it runs on all 8, and not to bad either. For a 32 year old, nearly 2 ton car this thing is pretty quick. Hence my curiosity as to what cam is in there.
Checked camshaft timing today.
Made a pistonstop from a sparkplug to determine true DTC 20160208_165141.jpg 20160208_165232.jpg The markings on the pulley are only one degree of.
Used 0.050in checking height first 20160208_172535.jpg and came up with some weird numbers, turns out the cams are measured without any checking height.
Inlet opens 30" BTDC and closes 75" ABDC, which is standard 9.35 cr carb cam.
By the looks of it, this engine has not been apart 20160208_165647.jpg and has done quite a few miles. I've seen (much) worse though.
