If memory serves me correctly you are over-due for a cambelt change. I seem to remember it's somewhere in the 80k region but worth checking with your dealer (I change Tiny's every 45k to be on the safe side).
Easy to do? Depends on your tech ability really. Its a bit awkwawd and requires removing engine mounts on one side and jacking the lump up to gain access. Your best replacing the fuel pump belt (on the opposite side) while you are at it. Give yourself a full day to do it and take your time. Take no notice of the haynes as it says you need to take half the car apart (which you dont!). be prepared to lose some knuckles!
sorry to jump on your thread, but i have a 03 plate freelander, with the bmw engine, are they belts or a chain ? and when do they need changing ( if a belt )
