Hi can any one tell me if it is possible to put the cam sensor from a thor on a gems, i have had an engine transplant and this is the only thing stopping it from being finished... Thanks

This is what i thought but the mechanic said he cant do that as the blocks are different, he has now sent the old engine to scrap man...i am able to get hold off the seating for the cam sensor from the guy we bought the engine off from a thor engine, this means dropping the gearbox and knocking the cam seat out of the housing and welding the thor seat in place, do you think that would work?

i can assure you they arent different ,canm sensors in front ie timing cover crank sensor rear lhs of block and can be swapped easy enough plate will need gluing in place

I just realized i was saying cam .... sorry i did mean the crank sensor,, thanks again, another thing.... if we manage to replace the crank sensor will the management need re tuning as the stroke is different on the gem to the thor?and it being a different management system

no if you fit crank sensor with its plate 2-3 inch ,stroke only varies between 4 litre or 4.6 and they run the same ecu

GEMS and Thor sensors are in a different position relative to the centre of the crankshaft.

The Thor sensor is further out than the GEMS unit.

We bought a new short motor which was for a GEMS unit, although we didn't realise that until we came to fit the sensor.

We modified the casing to allow the sensor to run in the Thor flywheel groove.

You can also get the housings for the two different sensors, the hoile in the block casting is in the same place, just the housings are different.
