Adventure 4x4 in Morley did mine when I had a 300TDi - I have used them since they opened. Not had a problem yet :)

Thanks for that, have you any number for them and rough guide for prices?
Im not too bad with full engine swaps eg mi16 engine into a 205gti but have never ventured inside engines so wouldnt be confident enough! if anyone on here lives local dont mind paying them if the price is right

If you can lock 1 pin on the flywheel thru hole in bell housing-then lock injection pump with another pin thru its hole and set the camshaft on its alignment marks-you are good to go-far easier than swapping engines. If you have a go, get the timing kit(ebay)

Do you know Jake Wright Landrovers in burley in wharfedale? They are a good bunch and did my 300tdi cambelt change for £120. Mines a defender though, but shouldnt think it would be too different. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info everyone! Il ring around tomorrow, how much on top was the kit for the 300 defender tdi on top of the £120? Thanks again!

It was £120 all in. Can't remember exactly but i think the breakdown was about £90 for labour and £30 for the kit. hope this helps.

Are you going to do the work yourself or get someone to do it for you?

The cost of a Cambelt kit using good quality components is about £40. In addition to do the job there are certain special tools required which would cost approx £50 (but then you have these tools forever) plus your own time. It's a very straightforward job to do if you just take your time.

Very satisfying once you've completed it too.

Cheers

Look on ebay for 300tdi diesel timing kit,ie ebay Item number: 190491668161
That will do what you want and more-the only pins you need are the one to lock the flywheel(fits in thread in the bell housing) and then the 9mm pin for injection pump(a 9mm drill would do this).Do a search for "how to do guide"-it really is an easy job

Some really good advice thanks! Il see if i can get my mate to do it if it is fairly easy? How long do you think it will take?

It'll take a morning and you'll really need the kit because as well as locking pins the kit also has a puller, for getting the crankshaft serp belt pulley off.

It takes about 1-2 hrs from start to finish-depends how often you stop for coffee etc,and how much fun you have undoing crank nut,and getting the pulley off-once you are in there,it is very straight forward, but take your time and check everything is aligned right, and do turn the engine over by hand a couple of revs and recheck all lines up still.

Got a price today for about £450 freelander 2000 reg, that's the cam belt, fuel pump belt and serpentine belt (alternator + Air con)

Cheers for the replies. I've got a garage to do it this time. I've read up about how to do it and I'd like to have a go, I bet it is satisfying. On the other hand I can't afford to have the vehicle off the road (excuse the pun). If I get another car I will definitely try it!

I managed to get a price of £380 from a garage in East Sussex.
