I know iannotts has my old defender lt77 gb..i'll text him and see if its still in one piece. Whether he can price up a delivery to laos i don't know..i'll need an address if you can pm me..it may also take a day or so to come up with a price as we work opposite shifts in different countrys..but i'm willing to explore it.

Also I would suggest if you get stuck look for local bus/lorry depot garage as they are possibly lot more willing to play with stripping stuff.

Just be sure to get a price before agreeing to work if you have someone do it for you

Cheers Storm, I do love this site, as for an address the last parcel was sent direct to the DHL office and I collected. Iannotts sold me some goodies last year so he knows he will get paid, was it a good box? why was it changed? etc etc
Also only looking for box, no transfer box or bellhousing to cut down on weight if possible.

Another way would be an LT77 jag gearbox as a donor-the defender long stick won't fit as the selector mechanism is different and requires stripping.(possible source of parts if desperate)

I'm guessing yours is lt77s

I'm just trying to throw up idea's

Thats good thinking and fair comment Fanman.

saw a Jag just the other day, presume all the internals are the same then, although i think the chances of finding 1 in a breakers might be slim, worth looking, yes it's an LT77

Only prob was reverse gear jumped out..i put new gb in when i did the 200tdi conv. He said he was gonna re-furb it, that was 3 months ago and i don't know how far he's got. I'll text him.

An email to ashcrofts explaining your in remote location would be good idea as I'm sure that the bell housing, selectors and rear housing would need swapping-I'm not sure about input shaft.

I also expect in the time frame you have that air freight will be expensive, few tools, gasket paper and sealant you may be able to cobble something up

Just looking at the first link you sent, proper good i'm thinking. I'm pretty good at keeping things going with a bit silicone and gasket paper, got it this far, would prefer to sort out this box if poss so would keep bell housing etc, not a problem with swapping internals though if they match

Air freight is still cheaper than new vehicle and there are worse places to break down.
Just trying to put a positive spin on it

Hi not sure if it helps. hope it does...

My brother is currently in moscow but is leaving late tomorrow evening. he is going through mongolia and into china, ending in beijing. He will be able to deliver parts but not a whole gearbox. If you can get parts to moscow or along his route let me know.

Good luck mate!

Thats part of the trip that we have already done, thanks for the offer but it's easier to DHL direct to Vientiane.
Hope he has a good trip, is he doing Kazakhstan as well?
