Hi all
Once I’ve welded my disco back together again the Cambelt beckons.
After a bit of research it turns out that without part LRT 12-044 pin/key to lock flywheel/torque converter costing upwards of £80 it can’t be done.
Seems a bit steep and has now doubled the cost of the job.
Any alternative options or cheap known vendors for this part would be appreciated.
First time doing a cambelt too which doesn’t help
Cheers

Why not ? Provided the crank doesn't move, then I can't see a problem - and, ..... yes I have an Auto D1 ( in my Avatar ) - first time I did the cambelt it had EDC - then #4 injector let the smoke out, so I took EDC orft... :) - Actually, first time I did an EDC cambelt, on my first EDC D1, I only had a 9.5mm drill to lock the FIP...:)

Also, the timing pin can be bought for < £30

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224675598954

and the full kit for < £40 :-

The cheap tdi timing kits off of ebay etc come with all the timing pins you will ever need, I did my edc auto with such a kit.
The pin does not lock the flywheel just makes sure all the marks line up, if you try and use it to lock the flywheel you will damage the tool.
The only hard part is getting the crank bolt undone, and if you have access to an impact gun even that is easy.

Cant remember what I used....something that fitted the hole and some drill bits on my rangerover but that's because I wanted the pump timing adjusted with a dial gauge so I could advance it and know where it was.

You can change the belt no bother without locking the crank....pin the cam and the pump with drill bits and change the belt making sure not to move the crank....or mark it with universal timing marks in a bottle (tipex) if youre worried :)

That definitely puts my mind at rest thanks. As I’m sure most of us will admit the Cambelt thing for some reason is a daunting prospect the first time, probably because if you do get it wrong bad things can happen. But apart from that I never take our Landys to a garage. I know the industry as I spent time in it andi know the trick and mark ups on material/parts and hours spent on the job. So all being well it’s literally is just MOT’s from now on. With a little help from the Landy zone crew

The other tool you will need is to stop the engine from turning when you do the bolt back up on the crankshaft (vs4985 or LRT12 080 ebay £60) or make something up yourself but must be strong and remember when the belt is fitted and tensioned rotate the engine by the crank bolt 2 rotations just to make sure everything is where it should be
