When my RF reciever was stopping the
car from shutting the Becm down I identified
the fault by locking the car while I sat in
it . The red dot next to the gear leaver stayed
Dimly lit. This indicates the Becm doesn't go into
sleep mode and overnight will drain batt.
With the new reciever fitted after a few minutes
Sat in the car with it locked the red dot goes out.
Batt been fine since
 
Not sure about voguese39 all i know is his name is stuart and seems a nice chap and good mechanics are always busy i know but i am in a situation where i would like this fixed by the 20th jan 2012.

It seems to me that the route i am going to take if no one can fit me in to do the job is to change that rf receiver as a lot of you helpful guys on here have suggested this is what may be the issue and my own view seems to be it is this part.

Receiver is under the O/S rear parcel tray support. Dead easy to change. I would support what dopey has said about buying from a reputable dealer and Island 4x4 is about the best. Anyway, attached are a couple of drawings, 1/ where the receiver is and 2/ how to remove and refit.
The Parcel shelf is also secured on the window side with pegs in slots, gently lever it off.

What exactly is the function of this RF receiver? If it is just a Aerial receiver then i could disconnect it as hardly listen to the radio but if it is an integral part of the car then i think i will have to go down the route of purchasing the part from a reputable dealer.

The receiver is nothing to do with radio. It is the receiver between the keyfob and the central locking mechanism. It is basically the same frequency such as many 433MHz (unlicensed) devices such as walkie talkies, remote doorbells, some cctv cameras and other more powerful transmission systems. The new receiver YWY500170 has much better rejection of spurious radio signals than its predecessors.
 
ok an update on this is my mechanic has disconnected the blue wire for the RF receiver and has told me there is still a 17amp drain? Any further ideas anyone? The offer of anyone wanting to take a look at this is still there! :)

A 17 amp drain say's alternator to me. Disconnect the alternator and see if the drain goes.
 
Cheers and Mechanic has said Alternator seems to work fine but i ask him to try what you have suggested.

If a diode has failed, it may appear to "work fine" but will drain the battery when the engine is not running. It will also cause other problems because the output will not be smooth.

Any ideas on how to find out if it is an alternator issue?
 
Mechanic has got back to me and said following has been done:

1. Alternator is off
2. Fuses are pulled from interior fusebox
3. Blue wire from Rf receiver is disconnected
4. BECM from under seat is completly unplugged

and there is still a 17amp drain?

Stumped??? any further ideas?
 
Further update from mechanic is he says he has found the drain and it is the main feed to the ICE install and drain is at 0.6amp.

a very complicated one consisting off:

1. 15 tv monitors including one in dashboard etc
2. Updated Cd/dvd player install
3. subwoofers
4. Blue led lighting inside vehicle
5. Updated rear lights all plumbed in with original lenses to prevent bulb failures.

Here are some pics and please don't shoot me for pimping it up lol - i have plans to export it to an overseas buyer!

yea play fair next time, OK I know you're embarrassed :eek: about the pimp and all :D but if you got to pimp it up then go all the way and do it right like you did..... its way over the top but because of that I kinda admire the way you went about it, well done
