Hi, I'm rebuilding the solid disc front brakes of my w reg Freelander 1. The lower guide pin was seized, but I've cleaned it up and it's moving fine now. My question is about the upper pin. Is the bore for the upper pin different I.e is it keyed. I can only fully insert the pin in certain positions. If I try to rotate the pin when it's fully inserted I can't, I can do this with the lower pin . I've cleaned the bore with wet'n' dry and from what I can see it's pretty clean and shiny. The pins I'm using are new as well. Any help would be appreciated, Cheer's.

The guide pins should rotate freely in the caliper bracket. If it's binding, something is amiss.

Thanks. I've spent ages now with the heavy duty wet or dry sandpaper and I've just about got the slide pin to rotate with a little resistance. I'll keep working on it. Interestingly, ive noticed the new slide pins( britpart ) are a good cm shorter than the originals. Cheers

I'm not sure I'd want to use Britpart components on the braking system tbh.

I'm with on that one, in not fitting britpart

when I fitted new discs pads I bought all oem , the pins came with silicone grease

bought a tin of caliper red rubber grease , as they advised not to get coppaslip near the rubber seals

worked a charm after I also rebuilt the calipers with new Pistons , seals etc

was good fun getting the new Pistons and rubber seals in , used a foot pump in the end , learnt the hard way after tearing the first rubber seal

as before I rebuilt the calipers , the brakes were getting really hot ,

know ur good self and others helped me with the great tips
