Changing discs and pads at the front end.

First side goes simply, no real issues, great I thought.

Other side is a PITA! Most issues of seized components resolved now except I have a single caliper guide pin seized really well and truly.

I have tried knocking it out, soaking in penetrating oil, then knocking it out or twisting it out.......... Nothing is shifting it. I am starting to suspect the brass sleeve it is in will also be a little corroded and shot too.

I have new guide pins and gaiters, and bolts.

What is the general opinion on this situation?
I have left it to soak overnight, hoping it will free up in the morning.
Do you guys think I am best to just get a new caliper carrier?

Huge pair of grips and really go to town....

I used a massive pair of Stilsons on mine last year when I had the P38, and sweated to get them out....it is just a matter of leverage (well, mine was)

The it snapped and I had to take it to work and use a large bench vice, loads of penetrating fluid and a No4 Cooper and Hide hammer to rotate the claiper bracket while the remains of the pin are held tightly in the vice!

Put a little bit of heat into it and twist and bang it will come out. It's naughty to heat them up but needs must sometimes.

Shop around, you can pick them up, new, for not a lot.

Yep I have decided this morning to buy a new one.
This one is well and truly in there and refuses to come out.
It has soaked in penetrating oil overnight.
I have tried vice/mole grips, stilsons, heat and a combination of all........

Should I got for Britpart or TRW?
 
Right well front brakes all done.
New discs and pads, plus a caliper carrier.
Now the bloody rear brakes need to be done. At least I have found a seized caliper pin up front so I can order everything in 1 hit. I hope.
 
Typical RR ownership, get one thing sorted and another pops up.....that is what makes it fun

My P38 is off the road waiting for a new track rod to arrive to replace the one fitted 4 years ago, these cars really are crap.
