OK,

I might be looking at a TD4 soon, probably around X reg.

I already know how to check for VCU problems by driving in tight turns at low speeds and also about generally listening for clunks, drones and whines that might point at diffs / ird's.

But what else should I look out for? I've tried searching on here to no gain but could do with some cheklist to mentally tick off when looking round and test driving....

Cheers.....

OK, this one is simple!

Have a real good look all around it. If anywhere you see a badge which says "Freelander" then DO NOT buy it!! ;)

Yeah, coz I'm sure your defender has never broken down!

If anyone has any practical advice it'd be apprecaited.....

Sure, my defender has broken down on the odd occation, but the reason is because it is 23 years old and not because it is not fit for the purpose it is sold for!

Best of luck!

ere Mike - have yu read this?

generally the best advice is - dont get a freelander - but if yu HAVE to - then go for a TD4. that way yu dont suffer HGF - but yu still have VCU/ DUIFF MOUNTS/CHASSIS CRACKING/UNEVEN TYRE WEAR/IRD FAILURE/ELECTRICAL PROBS/3 AMIGOS etc to keep yu occupied......

and thats on a good one.

Mike, you might think im havin a go.... "mine is better than your" and all that. But im not!!

You must see your self how many people post serious issues about their freelanders on here! These are not old cars. Some are barly out of the warrenty period have never been off roaded and are fooked!! They should not be called 4x4's!

If yer do go an look at one, take these with ya an give it a Viking job
