My faithfull Freelander has got to go unfortunately. Foolish Dutch tax laws made me do it. I already have it's boring replacement, a Corolla. :shame:
So, no more LaRo's as a daily car for me. But I can't help myself. I've got to get another. I think it's time to finally do what I've been wanting for a long time now. Get a LaRo classic...
But here's where I'd like some honest advice. I'm a novice mechanic at best. I can change oil, filters and do some light repair work such as brakes, axles, electrics etc. But I cannot (atm) weld, do major engine repairs such as timing belts, head gaskets etc. I'm learning though. I have some basic tools, but no easy access to a workshop etc. Gotta do my work on the street.
So, whatever I buy has to be in working condition. And stay that way for a couple of years. It doesn't have to be perfect, just gotta move and pass the MOT (APK) for a year or 4 without falling apart.
Due to the Dutch goverment being a thief, it has to be from 1986 or before. Anything younger will cost me 2500 per year in taxes alone! And it's got to be a petrol engine, diesels are way more expensive. So, it's gotta be a V8...
My dream would be a Def 110 5 door station. But these are rare, and expensive in the Netherlands. I could import one from the UK, they are a lot cheaper to buy. But that would mean traveling to the UK and a lot of paperwork. Being RHD is no problem for me.
I've also been looking at Range Classics. There are a lot more V8 RRC's out there and they are a lot cheaper (even in NL). Also the extra comfort would not suck.
So, any thoughs? Should I start out with a RRC? Or wait and get the 110? Also, import or buy locally.
I've got a budget of around 4000-10000 euro's in mind...
