Which is why I have a D1!
I know James disagrees but for me having an engine with peak torque below 2000rpm instantly slip to 3000 when you push the throttle was a waste
 
£2000 is bit cheap for a D2, good ones fetch a lot more.

If the pipes are good ACE is actually pretty brilliant, I was hassling a eurostyle Fester on the way to work today (low, wide wheels, stretch tyres, cannot corner as fast as a live axle off roader)
 
One explanation may be since owning the motor i have garaged it every night. Even if I return home for just an hour it is put inside. I did have a problem with the leaky sunroofs when I was on holiday but sealed them when I returned home.

We bought a new P38 - drove it home, put it in our garage, and then thought.... we'll go out for a meal to "celebrate"...... got back in said P38 - "total electrical failure" !! waited for land rover assist to come out ... not fixable by him - had to go back to the main stealers - no meal out for us then !! ... Long story short, of the eight months we owned it, it was actually here for about 6 weeks !! Its L322 replacement was no better, and we got a nissan..... ( and lost a huge amount of £ into the bargain)

For what is now at least a 12 year old model there are still a hell of a lot of them around so something must be good about them. Far too often all we hear are the negative side of things.

I agree completely - they are a super vehicle, just not for us - and I almost wish they were given the extra space inside them and the other improvements too... it is, sadly, the nature of fori, that the problems are the things that, in the main, bring people to them.

Im in the process of finding out about a rechassis for mine, the one fitted is ok but as I'm planning on keeping the vehicle see this as preventative maintenance.
Money spent on the chassis wouldnt buy much in the way of a replacement

Fully agree - D1 chassis' don't really suffer too much, though SWMBO's had been used for sea launching in the past, and a blocked drain hole and salt water have meant I had to do some welding on the chassis - thankfully its isolated, and now cured...But I would have no hesitation in re-chassising either of ours. They are both getting to tax exempt status !!

To be fair, forums such as LandyZone (other forums are available) aren't really representative of how Land Rover products perform, more how they fail to perform.
If somebody buys a Land Rover of whatever flavour and has no trouble whatsoever with it they're hardly likely to be looking for let alone spending time on such forums asking questions like "I bought a Land Rover and I'm totally p**sed off with it, it never seems to break down. What can I do to rectify the situation?"
There are of course exceptions to this generalisation.
 
I have run my X reg Disco 2 for two years and its been fairly trouble free. Certainly nothing more than you would expect from a 16 year old car. It has never stranded me or broken down. Worst was a fuse for the rear suspension. Chassis has had one bit of preventative welding although many newer ones I looked at when I bought it were shot. Maybe I have been lucky or got a good one but you have to state as you find. A similar age Defender would cost lots more and while I think they are great and would have one in a shot I have enjoyed my heater, heated seats, elbow room etc
