Today I'm going to enjoy my birthday with some expended rounds down range and tomorrow watch my (American) football team beat the New England Patriots to go on to the Super Bowl.
replaced all the felt and cracked plastic runners on the csw slidding windows, with a replacement rubber felt seal from woollies .
Not to bad a job, no more rattling no more draft and fingers crossed no more water coming in!
half shafts can wait till work this week or next weekend!...was **** weather here the day
are the runners in the link the exact ones you used? do you have any pictures or tips for replacing them, the rear windows on my 90 rattle like crazy, its like being in a green house with the wind blowing.
Yeah that's the same runners I used. I think I have some pics on my phone , wait out.
However getting it above the window is fairly easy just ensure you remove all the old felt. I used washing up liquid to help slide it in. I then moved the window back and forth holding it each time with the edge of a screw diver. Then when I could grip the end I pulled it through until it was flush. Then I pushed it home around the frame it does bunch up alittle in the corner.
My problem is I used the felt under the window as the plastic was non-existent. I think that is filling with water and its leaking into the back through where the window overlaps.
However I have cut out 2 strips from the side where the channel would sit and I think its working...I will take photos of that tomorrow ....hope this helps.....if not ask away.
thanks that helps a lot. i assume you did it with the windows still fitted and didnt take them out and dismantle?
how many of the lengths of channel did you need?

was going to change thermostat and alt/ps belts but stabbed myself in the back of my hand which stanley knife. 3 stitches and swollen. pain in the arse. oh yea, tetnus injection aswell
I ordered 6 meters to be sure, I cut a little off where I ripped it pulling it through, and that went from the very top all the way round and underneath. the photos I have are crap. But if it dry the morrow I,ll take some more. The channels still bedding in, Aye the windows where still fitted. it just takes a wee bit of moving the windows back and forth. doing this allows the seal to be pulled along. I then held it in place and moved the window back. I kept doing this until I could grasp some of the seal with needle tip pliers and pulled it through. It don't take long, if you still have the plastic runners in the bottom leave them in.
Are you sure the draught isn,t coming through the vertical seal between the 2 planes?...think that's one of my issues, replacement parts are around 40 quid for all the parts but you have to drill out all the rivits to split the frame to change.(summer job me thinks)
Thought you just said stabbed my hand,,,,,,,, Was it your arse then?
i'll get some channel ordered up and give it a go when i rebuild it all, hopefully this easter, definitely before summer. i think i'll take the windows out though, because i want to repaint the hardtop sides, and replace all the other roof window seals as they have gone hard and leak like crazy.
ive got a draft coming though the vertical seal too, the seal fixed to one of the pains of glass barely even touches the other pain. i was thinking, as i never open these windows, maybe sliding a length of windscreen wiper blade in the gap?
I use my windows quite a lot as i have 2 dogs. Your quick fix with a wiper should work. If your planning in rebuilding the windows I would strip them down as you are and replace everything.
All the parts are here.
Might cost a wee bit more but di it right first time and you should get the rewards.....no drafts or water
thanks for the link. i mean im planning on rebuilding the whole thing, not just the windows!
