Just been recovered from the Lakes, the thing overheated going up a long hill. My Radiator has a split (10cm) right along the plastic bit at the very top where it looks like a pipe runs along it. My question is does this mean a new rad or is it just a part to be replaced ? Whats a fair price for the local indy to charge to supply and fit a new one ? I hate feeling as if Ive been ripped off.
Cheers in advance.

Definateley a new rad. Did mine last year, cost me £90 for the rad,(V8). While it was out i changed the waterpump (had a slight leak), thermostat and tank cap. Saves having to drain the coolant over and over!! :)
Also lets me think less to go wrong!!:D

Thanks for the prompt reply Datatek. Next question, who's the best parts supplier. Britpart or Island 4x4 ?

Personally I wouldn't touch ****part. If you buy from Island make sure it's not also ****part, they often offer more than one maker.

Cheers guys, looks like £125 for new rad. maybe I'll get the brother-i-l to help out. He's good with spanners ! ; )

The diesel rad from Island4x4 is I think a Nissan unit - replacement is mostly easy (rust permitting) although removing the fan is rather awkward without the appropriate spanner!

Cheers Guys, Bruv is ok with sorting it next w/end. He says its straightforward enough...sounds like famous last words to me..

Before you fit, make sure it has a baffle as there are a lot of Chinese copies about that don't have a baffle. No baffle = no cooling. I got a baffle-less one from a well known supplier and sent it back for a refund. I got a proper Nissens one from Island 4x4 and that was fine.
