you are right Nodge68 I do not know what I was thinking of when I said that it is of course my fans control unit and it sits in the plastic that also goes around the fans I do not think I have a ptc and I am not going to try and look on the inside heater matrix.

Turns out it is the glow plug relay, or at least, that is the opinion of Chipperfield Landrover or Looters as they like to call themselves not

Thought the glowplug relay was inside the E-box.

The glow plug power controller (it's not a simple relay) is mounted to the front of the engine block, just below the glow plugs. It definitely isn't where the OP has damage.

Had same relay melt ( caught early ish) had to replace a couple of terminals in the holder. The relay is for the front heated screen and the fuses in the box next to it are the fuses for the screen ( screen in 2 separate elements) .
Would be worth checking the window connection where they connect to the internal wiring ( mine was twisted and taped by the windscreen company) under the scuttle plate. Mine had melted at the taped connection and relay base all sorted know..did look around and you can buy relay bases that you can crimp and put together yourself only problem the are not waterproof .
