Hi, freelander 1 td4, there are 2 relays that hang off a metal bracket on the right-hand side of the engine bay, looking from the front. One of these has burnt out taking with it the socket and some of the associated wiring. Can anyone confirm what this relay controls, seems to be the heater fan?

Does it have a heated front screen or PTC heater? It'll be one of those. The PTC heater is likely to be the one that affects the booster fan too.

I don't or some bugger took mine off. there still a hole where the exhaust would come out of. I noticed a larger hole behind the left side headlight directly above where the heater pipe must go through. 52 plate.

The PTC heater fits onto the heater matrix, the FBH fits behind the bumper.
Most cars have one or the other, a few have both.

What year is the Freelander 1 and do you have a photo to narrowo_O

Here are a couple of photos of the offending item

My SE has these fitted. I don't think I have the PTC heater, but I do have the heated front screen.

Well don't have a heated front screen so assuming it is the PTC heater could a malfunction in that cause the relay, wiring and relay socket to burn out the way it has?
