Evening all
My first post (I think, unless I was here years ago !)
I've bought an early ninety which I'm intending to do a full rebuild on and then drive for ever.
I'm settled on a Marsland chassis and am trying to decide on which brand of galvanised bulkhead to fit;
At the moment I'm drawn toward an SP galvanised bulkhead.
Any experiences ? good or bad.
I was also thinking to cut the original chassis number out of the old chassis, shape the section into a nice plate, cold zinc plate it and weld it onto the new chassis in the appropriate position.

Good idea to keep the old chassis number if you can find it, but best just to keep it. Cold galv is good when there is no other choice but does not compare to the hot dip version. Daft to damage your new chassis by welding it.

Beside it will also look like the chassis has been tampered when you weld in a plate with a number on it.

Eventually ordered a Marsland chassis which they will stamp for me (have cut out the chassis number from the old chassis and kept it and cut the chassis up). Also ordered a Mear stainless steel bulkhead.
Started refurbing everything, overhauled front axle with new teflon coated spheres and managed to fit new vented discs and calipers off of a later model. The supplier said they won't fit but after comparing all the disc measurements online I took a punt and ordered some and they fit with a bit of a tweak to the hubs with a grinder to make them clear the caliper.
Today I bought a mk1 discovery Tdi for the engine and disc braked rear axle casing so I've been reading the really useful threads on here regarding fitting the Tdi into an earlier 90.

You will have to report back how you get one with that. My station wagon project will need a chassis and bulkhead. And I have not come across the stainless ones before. Thought the only options were galvanised.

It would be interesting to see how stainless bulkheads last in terms of strength and any corrosion where it meets other metals. I’d be going for galvanised but am open to stainless if it lasts without issues.

And that’s why was asking. Glav steel would Be my go to. But there must be a demand for stainless otherwise they would make them but would be interested to know how well they last.

I looked at the Stainless Bulkhead, but the cost was high, I went with the SP Panels Bulkhead and the only issue was drilling out the vent flap hinges for the pins, which was easy enough once I had made a long thin holder for the 5mm drill I used in the cordless. This kept the drill out of the way of the Bulkhead and allowed me to clear the Zinc out of the holes. Well impressed with the panel, a good bit heavier than the original. Fitted and lined up well, no fighting at all.
