Hi, the hinge part on my bulkhead vent flap has come off one of the flap and I was wondering if anyone has a tip to reattaching it, originally it was spot welded, i take it its alliminium, I did think about pop riveting it but think this will look a bit rough. Also how are the seals fixed, my ones were stuck with some kind of glue.
Thanks.

You could try gluing hinge with an epoxy like Araldite, Contact adhesive is used to fix seal.

It's steel isn't it?

I'm not sure about the flap hinge but isn't the entire bulkhead steel? Hence the rust...

So you could just weld it?

Hi Tottot is the seal glued to the bulkhead or the vent? Sorry for being stupid but although I have had virtually everything else in bits in the last 8 years of ownership it's only now I've tackled the bodywork.

Hi Crofter65,early models [ pre tdi like mine] had a rubber or sealed foam ones fitted to the bulkhead.Later ones had foam strip fitted on the flap. Some of this later type are not good as they fill with water and stay wet promoting rust.

The new seals that I bought for my car are self adhesive, which is, almost certainly, what you are seeing on your own.

If you can't find someone with a spot welder, I would use pop rivets. Do both sides so they match. They won't look too out of place on a vehicle that has quite a few anyway.

I redid my vent seals a couple of years ago. Used the proper rubber seals and contact adhesive. Easy to do and very effective.

I glued my seals with Tiger Seal, sticks like sh't to a blanket. Once applied, close the flaps down to hold the seal until the glue has cured.
