I have recently had a new tdci bulkhead adapted to fit my 200tdi
at the time I thought it was a great idea to get rid of the rust traps as the last bulk head had rotted away behind the dash.

As I look at it in the garage, Im not sure

I have strated to have second thoughts on buying it, I keep thinking ive made the wrong choice ref the vents :confused:

So vents or not, how many of you use them??

Before I fixed my exhaust it was useful to pressurise the cabin with the Ram Air they provide, and it's useful through ventilation for the dogs and still keep them secure. Much more useful on the series though as I can put long lengths of wood through them...but all in all they ARE rust traps and I'd live without them if I had a flapless one

Thanks for that
If I do keep it,
I will fit some kind of vent in the back for the dog

I have also thougth about fitting aircon into it but that will be way down on the list

Had my bulk head repaired 2 years ago (1992 110 ) and we had to cut the old one off around bonnet level as original had rusted from the inside! The new section doesn't have air vents but I'm not worried as I have a sun roof. I must admit I miss the vents but knowing there are no rust traps makes me feel happier.

You've still got windows. I wouldn't worry about it. They are rust traps, they suck when u forget to shut them before thrashing it through a very deep puddle(ask me how I know)

I'd get it on mate. If u swapped it for one with vents then In x amount of years your be wishing you didn't have the vents there again.

I think galv is waste of time
Yeh it lasts longer but will you really have the truck in 20 years and if u do surely ull look after it each year

But that's the beauty of galvanising, you don't have to look after it. With Galving you wake up one morning to find the paint bubbles, and when you finally get round to sorting it, its much worse than you first thought.
While its off the truck its an easy job, and adds re sale value.

Galv is good, it's great piece of mind that you'll not be chasing your tail every year welding.
Not that their all like that, some are looked after and have never had a patch.

Update

well This weekend I sold the tdci galved bulkhead I purchased for my 200tdi and have ordered a correct replacement with vent flaps just like the original

Now I just have to make my mind up over the color
oh well I have 8-10 weeks to decided
