Hello folks,
I’m rebuilding my 300 tdi 90 and now turning my attention to the bulkhead. I’d like to keep the original part but it needs a fair bit of work. Any you guys and girls on here know anyone in Scotland who can work on these. Land Rover is in fife at my folks farm getting the work done. I can take the bulkhead anywhere to someone who could fix it.

If you are at the stage where you have the bulkhead off, get a new galvanised one it will (overall) cost you less, add more value to the car and last a lot longer.

Thanks for the reply. A new one makes sense too. Going to price up repairs and see where it comes out. It needs a fair bit, old motor has had a hard life. Thanks mate.
 
I repaired mine and parts alone cost £500. I then bought a new galvanised one as I wasn't happy with the corrosion I couldn't get to beween where the bulkhead is sandwiched together and spot welded.

Ohhh shiny, you wouldn't want to paint that :) , I think that's looks like a very reasonable price. Especially when you see shielder are charging the same in £s for a galvanized 1

To @Forrest Gump if you posted a few pics, guys who have done it before could give you a better idea if its worth salvaging or not to bother.

Sure, I will get a few photos later on. One of the main parts that needs fixed is the a post as the lany was on its side after I stupidly let a numpty use it to tow a trailer of sheep down a twisty country road at too fast a speed! Usual spots are the footwells and vent areas and a couple of spots further in. I’m not a welder by any means so not sure what a hard job would be. To a pro they’d prob laugh at me for flapping about it. Thanks for the reply.

Hello mate, thanks for your reply too. Priced the stuff I need from YRM £500-600ish and then a guy to weld it in. I would think that would come to a lot of cash. Got a new chassis and all other parts needed to rebuild up so wouldn’t want to skinflint on a very important part. Just feel it’s got to be done right.

Buy a new bulkhead knowing it's job done and you can sleep at night. Then, hang the old bulkhead from garage beams for some Landy mechanoporn art. Or just flog it on eBay.
 
if you can afford it replace it as repairing one is time consuming and you'll never get rid of the rot
 
My one new pedal boxes so the twin skin was removed and pillars. Acid dipped and galvanized

Getting stuff galvanised isn't (or wasn't when I was doing it) as expensive as you might think. You'll have to get an idea of the approx weight to get a quote. Then you can see if it's more cost effective to get yours repaired and galvanised or but one done by someone else.
Have you bought a galv chassis?
