Hello all,

Finally getting around to stripping my defender down ready for the chassis being delivered soon.
I have some advice required on the bulkhead that I removed. Please see the attached photos and give me an opinion on wether the bulkhead is repairable or not.

Many thanks in advance for the help this forum always gives.

Shane.

I’ve seen a lot worse! YRM should be your first port-of-call, have a look at their website and they should have the repair panels you require.

Yes!!

Mine was worse and I managed.

As mentioned YRM has everything you’ll need. Just cut out the rust and weld in new peices.

The rust around the bulkhead brackets could do with some re-enforcement though. I welded a plate behind mine.

I had to add some steel plate before covering with the yrm vent surround.

Once it was done it was solid

Possibly consider getting it blasted or acid dipped first so you can see the extent of the rust and how far back you need to repair.

Ok, so I’ve had to get some quotes from companies to do the repair work for me as I don’t have the equipment, expertise or time to do this myself as well as complete the rest of the build on the in the timescale I need to.

Can anyone recommend me a company or a person who can carry out the repairs I need?
Anyone possibly selling a bulkhead in better condition than mine?
Any recommendations on where to get an already refurbished bulkhead as a sort of service exchange?

I’m getting pretty desperate now as I’ve just received notification of starting a new job really soon and need to have it finished before then.

Please don’t post about learning to weld, doing it myself as I simply do not have the time to do that right now.

There are not many places that have a stock of them to be able to swap for a re-coned unit. There are however several which will recon your bulkhead for you. I used Classic bulkheads in Birmingham for my series (link). They did a good job on that and I contacted them for a chat about a defender one (before I go and buy a second bulkhead as mine is a daily drive) and they do them as well. Their lead time has come down as well since they did my series.
