Can anyone point me in the right direction of a thread with lots of images of a bulkhead being stripped down and repaired? I am sure I have seen one but I have searched on the net and a number of forums and can't find it.

The thread I am thinking of had lots of photos but the person doing it had stripped a lot of the front vent panel off and the internal strengthening parts were shown. I will be repairing mine at sometime in the future and I think understanding how it's put together will help. I think it shows spot weld positions etc, so was quite useful.

If anyone can provide a link that would be very helpful.

Los of threads of "bulkhead repair" on site. Not sure if what you are looking for is there but just use search box for a look.

I found a thread once where the person doing the repair showed images of the vent part of the bulkhead with the panels removed. This showed the internal parts of the bulkhead- all the stiffening sections etc and this made it easier to understand what would be needed to remove pieces and also where possible rust is likely to be. The images were really useful to understand where spotwelds and joints were. It made it helpful in understanding which parts are double skinned which will be really important when it comes to cutting sections out.

There are so many threads about bulkheads that finding that one is a bit like the needle in a haystack scenario. Most seem to be the top corners where I want something showing a full vent panel replacement.

I will keep looking and if I find it will share a link.

The main thing I want is a photo showing what is between the skins. This is so I know what to expect when I start cutting, but also so I can understand where I can expect rust between skins.

I will keep looking!

Search for @Billy B's build thread.
He rebuilt his incredibly rusty Ninety, did a very good job, I have seen it on laneing trips.

They're the best I have. I didn't do a thread. I repaired then bought a new galvanised one. I would see exactly what needs doing as mine grew arms and legs and cost me about £500 in parts. Where the steelwork is sandwiched together would have caused problems further down the line I suspect hence the new one. I did have the whole thing striped and fitted a new galvanised chassis. I also used a hobby mig welder which was utter ****e - too hot or not hot enough - no fine tuning and the starting of it crap...
If I was to do another (which I aint) I would remove bulkhead altogether and make jig/frame.

Watch how must heat you put in also as it will distort. I had to heat straighten mine which was a right pain and work I could have done without, but I replace that much metal it was always going to happen. So access what yours needs before shelling out cash and time.
 
Working on this at the mo...a few pinholes where master cylinders sit turned into this it's double skin there...got top rail and vents to do next week will chuck a few pics up if interested...

Thanks Shippers, any photos and advice would be welcome. I have bought a bulkhead to repair, so will be doing the work off the vehicle. As I check it out, when I find rust, if I understand how they are put together I hope I can guess where the rust is likely to be as that way I can look for it. I want to get this galvanised but I don't want to go to that expense if it is not in a suitable condition.

The bulkhead I have is definitely going on one of the vents, but also below the bonnet channel in the same area. It's a pity there's not a full width, full depth, double vent replacement panel made as that would be ideal.
