I have been mentioned to that a 90 will be better then a series for going to and from work and Greenlaning. I have 1500 to spend but would that be enough or what the minimum I need for a good standard landrover 90 diesal I don't expect and kit on it juststandard but decent. if someone could give me a helping hand with advise and examples much appreciated as I really am a novice

the only diesel landy you'll get fer 1500 quid will be a disco or series...you dont want a series diesel as they get less mpg than the petrols !

You can get a 90 for 1500. Forget how it looks on outside, look at engine and chassis and build round them. Its worth waiting, i had a lot of series and loved them all, but a 90 is land rovers best product. By far.

I want a diesel for work reasons. So is there any examples you could show me forsale now so what to look for. As long and engine chassis ok and it works I don't mind restoringthe rest

I'd have said 110 but slacken it to Defender and I'll give it to you. Not enough boot space in 90 (for people plus equipment)...

up until this point storm I considered you an intellegent man........how sad and upsetting to find out you have leaf spring envy

I do miss the series...i really do...but I just feel the 90 is an improved series, can we agree on that? :p

Well a guy I spoke to the other week he had series and defender and just brought a disco so his wife can use as well but he couldn't speak higher of a series said it's best thing his ever owned no mod cons nothing luxury but he used for work said was fine! Was he just bloody lucky?

From a tech point of view possibly :mad::mad:

from a drop dead goegeous series point of view .......fenders is ugerly :D

Its like a woman..the early ones (above age of consent) look great..but have no idea what they're supposed to do..then as they develop they start to lose their looks but go like the clappers..:D..they all lose fluids regularly though.

That is quite probably the best discription i have ever heard! :D

i bought my 90 for 1500 it was a 2.5 na diesel with a galvernized chassis, engine had just had a full rebuild and came with cb and cd player. it was a truck cab and the door were wrotten. It now has a 200tdi and is a soft top with zu alloys and 285 bg at. those parts alone cost more than the 90. It even had 6 months mot and 6 months tax BARGIN

Chassis and bulkhead[rotten footwells common but easy to fix] must be good. Anything ells is a nut and bolt replacement job that can be sorted in time.Plenty of parts out there at not to much cost.

I paid £1450 for my 1990 200tdi 90, they are out there if you look hard enough. As said before watch out for rotten chassis (outriggers usually) and bulkheads, bulkhead repair panels are available and everything else is just nut and bolt. I replaced my chassis for a galvanised one a few weeks ago, did it on my own with just a bit of help lifting things like rear tub and bulkhead, it took me 4 weeks from start to finish and was easier than I expected. Defenders are the most simple car in the world to work on and anyone with basic mechanical skills can fix them. I'd go with a 90 over a series landrover personaly, I have driven them both and have to say the defender is loads better when it comes down to road manners, but that just my personal opinion. Which ever you get as soon as you go off road you won't be dissapointed.;)
