Finally resolved this. ebay seems to be suffering with slow deliveries at the moment so took a while for the bits to arrive, but I tapped the hole a little deeper with a 5/16 UNC bottoming tap (probably cut another 5-7mm thread, I would guess, and fitted a UNC/UNF stud. And fitted the slave cylinder with a UNC bolt at the top, and a UNF nut on the stud at the bottom. Not pretty, but it's fitted, now!

Now to get the clutch hydraulic system filled and working.

Tried to get system bled, and thought I'd got all the air out, but I'm still only really getting significant resistance on the clutch pedal, right at the bottom of the travel, and as far as I can tell, it's not disengaging the clutch at that point.

Any hints or tips to get the system properly bled?
