Hello everyone

I am a newbie in here. I am hoping to get some advice regarding my recent dilemma.

I recently bought a nice Rangy 97 P38 model. Everything works as it should....touch wood  . Anyway, few weeks ago whilst driving along A3, I heard loud knocking bangs from front under, and my steering wheel started to shake. I immediately pulled over. I found the prop shaft had broken off !! Miraculously, the roadside assistant told me I could drive it safely home which I did!

I had seen taken my rangy to a local mechanic- not 4x4 specialist, who told me that he couldnt get the part from RR, in any event the part would cost about 500 quids!

Well, I am hoping someone here can point me to the right direction. I am extremely ignorant when it comes to car. I live near Guildford Surrey, and wondering where I should get a specialist to take a look, someone who can be trusted not to rip me off etc.

Your comment is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

hi if your hany with the 13mm spanners/sockets you can do it your self in under half hour, just raise the suspension to its full height lay underneath and undo the 4 nuts and bolts on the diff and the same on the transfer box put the new prop on and do them back up again, ideally use new nuts and bolts(approx £5 ebay) and same place for a front prop, i brought 1 of ebay before for £20, can get new ujs for both ends of ebay for about £12 hope that helps and welcome to landyzone

try this item number on ebay 280841976969 its for a petrol not sure what yours is but think they are interchangable

Question is what caused the prop to break? Check the VCU is not seized before you fit a new prop or next time it will be the diff that fails.

No good with 13mm spanners. The bolts on the prop shaft are 3/8 UNF. 9/16 spanner size.
