Hi all, my td5 just started jerking and then went to idle only. Any advice or anyone near by I’d really appreciate it. Apparently I’m too close to my house for my Rac cover to work!!!

Does the throttle do nothing or is it just when you put load on it it returns to idle

I’ve got it home. Disconnected battery and kept turning ignition on and off and got there. It sounds like **** on load. Almost stuttering. No Hawkeye here

I had a stuck turbo wastegate error on my nanocom that gave similar symptoms, massive stuttering on load, Idle fine.

Thanks Jim. I don’t know if it’s in my head but I’m sure it’s whistling more than normal which could mean the actuator isn’t behaving correctly or sticking

Whistling could be the exhaust manifold.
On another tack, did you mean you were stuck ON the M4 and the RAC wouldn't recover you?!

Yes James, I was thinking the idle only was a kind of protection mode. I then disconnected battery, maf, left for 10, reconnected, turned ignition in and out a few times and got lucky on one and it was revving. I got it back around the corner and it lurched - like it was hitting a fuel cut.
I thought the whistling might be wastegate not shutting fully but I could guess all day and no point rolling about in the rain taking guesses.
The local specialist who are bob on sorted a cheaper local recovery and they’re collecting and looking when it arrives. I have a spare crank position sensor ready to go on if that’s it. Think I’ll get a Hawkeye as soon as possible.

No I was on the a road off it. I’ve broken down in narrowed lanes hard shoulder running on m4 before though!! Sketchy stuff. I work in the industry and that experience made me even less keen on smart motorways as that’s the exact scenario they can cause. That was in a brand new Ford Focus and I didn’t even get limp - just engine malfunction and ground to a halt

whistling could be a hose or exhaust manifold gasket, you can remove filter drain or switch and watch the flow when ignition is switched on

It’s just sh1t doing it outdoors on the road as d1 is on the drive. It’s hard to describe how it was. I’m hoping it’s just a nasty maf or cps. She’s been running so well and only yest I was on a track in the middle of nowhere late at night as was out fishing. Glad it happened now and not then. I do wonder if the water it’s been smashed with over last couple days is linked. Who knows...

Glad to hear you're sorted - not too far from me, but J17 to Chippenham Town Centre (Harfords) is probably a bit far to recover on a tow rope anyway.

Have used Harfords in the past - they're not necessary the cheapest but you get what you pay for. One of my friends always swore by Broad Lane though.
