Has anyone used the britpart rear calipers if so are they any good or am I better off rebuilding the OEM calipers

I used them on mine for the last mot and that was 7 months ago and so far they have been fine. They still look good to as they are plated.

whats wrong the old ones ??[/

There just rotten and the pad keeps dropping through and scoring the disc? This is a common fault I know, so I thought about welding a blob on the pad to help keep it in place, I have just bought a replacement axle and that has the same problem with the calipers and it seems to be driver side that suffers from this problem?

If that is the only complaint - that the pad is dropping due to a worn caliper, then weld a little extra material onto the pad as you say.

Do the pistons move freely and look good?

I had a similar issue but I had stuck pistons and jammed seals so I did just buy two new calipers to save myself some trouble, but had the pistons not been stuck (and I wasn't prepared to free them off due to time) I would have rebuilt them and possibly tried to build up the material on the caliper to stop the pad dropping.

It was O/S on mine too. Probably due to the extra salt the O/S tends to get exposed too. Same with rot, O/S tends to rust first.

Rot whats that?????? the pistons have seized in both of the replacement axle calipers i'm not sure about the ones on the disco now they seem ok but just by the look of them (corroded) i think i will be in the same boat,

The simple answer is to add a G to the part number and get them from Britpart - with a D1 you then get AP Lockheed calipers for a sensible price.Worn calipers make pads jam, waste fuel etc,its just not worth doing a cr-p job.
