After two days nearly destroying my front brake pipes I've just realised that the new Britpart steel flexi's have a metric fitting on one side and Imperial UNF on the other! No wonder i had problems sealing and tightening the flexi up.

Has anyone else ever come across this issue?

No part number I'm afraid it wiped off with the brake fluid :mad:. Ill have a look at the order from Paddocks. Couldn't believe they were different at each end!

From 80/81 I think they went metric and thats including the wheel cylinders so you have to make sure what you order what matches the rest of the system.
 
Thanks for the info, I've checked the original rubber flexi's that i took off and both ends are metric on each end.

I've send them (Britpart) a message and photo with the difference in threads displayed

These flex is are metric both ends , but depends what’s been changed after that

In feel your pain, wasted hours trying to fit a new flexy only to find one rear brake was metric and one imperial. In the end I swapped out all the wheel cylinders (they were due), all the flexies and all the lines and went all imperial. There was such a mix that every repair would have been another unknown thread battle. Swapping out the lines was worthwhile, some of the routes were odd and there were some dodgy in-line unions.
 
Rob, Steve many thanks for your great and useful replies. Ill try and upload my photo of the britpart flexi's and you can see the difference in thread. Steve you are right in that all the parts on my series (1981) are all metric as the old flexis' fitted straight back on. I double checked the Britpart threads at the local garage with a nut, each end was different whilst screwing on.

Next step change the whole front end brake pipes so at least i know whats what.

Managed to upload the pics - 1st one is the Britpart flex with different threads (imperial on the left Metric on the right) and my original fittings which look metric.

Good idea to change them , I bought a roll of pipe and working my way round , as above worth having m10 nuts and screws to try on them pics attached from workshop manual

Another reason to change is that the metric and imperial flares are different and if you have a mix sooner or later a wrong flare will be paired with a union. I found that on mine and it helped me decide to change the lot.
 
My saga continues but.....i'm nearly there. As you have all already highlighted there was mix of UNF and Metric which really annoys me (time wasting) but i'm just waiting on a few more fittings (metric) and the whole front end is finally metric. I suppose its all about learning about a series ;)

Many thanks for all your input; Steve your attachments proved invaluable as i could see which ones where incorrect even before i attempted to undo the offending item.

No mate, they all vary. You can buy imperial and metric depending on what series you have. As a general rule 1980/81 is when they changed to metric. Mines an 81 and its a mismatch of metric and imperial so i'm changing the lot back to metric. The dangerous thing is that most of my connections are either imperial and forced onto a metric union. Nightmare to get off.
