Needed a washer pump for my 85 Ninety, only aftermarket available, arrived in britpart box, old one had spade connectors, new one has tiny superseal type connectors, but I can live with that, the laughable part is it came with a one way valve , but , its a no way valve! its blocked what ever way it goes, that is supposed to be a one way valve isnt it?

Quality control up to its usual standard.

Yes, there are one way valves in the pipes to stop the water draining back through the pumps.
IIRC they're hard to blow through!

I was opening a blue bag whilst reading your post....

Had to smile when I saw my retaining plates.

Before you return it, connect it up and see if it actually works.
I remember there was a one way valve in the air line to the vacuum operated heater flaps in my Porsche 928 S4

l was convinced it was defective as it seemed to be blocked both ways. I fitted a new one at some expense and it was the same. Turns out you couldn’t test by blowing through it, it took more pressure than that.

Yours may be the same.

That's what I said ^^^^, but without the Porsche :( :p

Cant return it, I have used the little pipe as a leak off between two injectors! I am not too worried about a one way valve in the washer pipes, my 90 isnt that sophisticated anyway, when I use the washer jets the wipers stay put until I switch them on.

+1 on 1-way valves being impossible to blow through!
I was fitting some to my 90 and a pair arrived so I tried to blow through them (as you do) and I couldn't do anything in either direction, contacted the seller who send me a new pair and same again. Thought this couldn't be right so I fitted them into the line and hey presto, they work perfectly.

I dunno about that, I have another one here from a generic kit pump that I can blow through fine. If you find it hard to blow through imagine the pressure drop from the tiny little washer pump?

I can't image washer hose lasting too long with diesel?

I think those little pumps must be able to create quite a head of pressure, nobber. Imagine how hard you would need to blow water down the washer tube and then out through the pin holes of the nozzles. Doubt you'd get that pin jet far up the screen. Those pumps can jet the stream over the roof if they're not aimed at the screen properly. :)

"If you find it hard to blow through imagine the pressure drop from the tiny little washer pump?"

Proof of the pudding was in the eating.
My pump supplies two twin jets and with both the 1-way valves in-line (one for each pair of nozzles rather than a single one on the main feed) and the 4-jets of water hit the screen with good force at practically any speed.

Agree 100%. My PO used gas (as in Camping Gas) hose to repair a fuel line. It went as solid as rock and, not surprisingly, began to p*ss diesel everywhere as soon as it was flexed during some gentle off-road trips. Probably best to spend 25p on the proper stuff?

I have used it for years, it started out that I needed some clear to monitor an issue with air in the fuel lines, it does get hard but there is no flex at all between two CAV injectors, unless they are on two different engines. Leak off pipe wont flex, if it does you have serious issues.
